The Canisius softball team begins MAAC play Saturday, April 7, when the Golden Griffins play at Quinnipiac in Hamden, CT. The Blue and Gold will also travel to play Marist on the first weekend of league action. Those two games will be played on Sunday, April 8 in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
NEWS AND NOTES
• The Golden Griffins are 3-22 on the year after dropping a doubleheader at Syracuse on April 4.
• Freshman Kara Paradowski leads the MAAC with 14 stolen bases while fellow freshman Erin Hufford ranks second on the team and fourth in the league with seven swipes.
• As a team, the Griffs rank 62nd in the nation with 1.3 stolen bases per contest.
• Sophomore Morgan Altman ranks second in the league with three triples.
• Senior pitcher Erika Mackie is among the league leaders in appearances (16) and innings pitched (70.2).
CANISIUS OWNS MAAC PLAY
• Canisius starts its 28th season of MAAC play this weekend with an all-time record of 367-147 (.714 win percentage) in MAAC regular-season games.
• Last season, Canisius went 9-11 in conference games.
SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
• Quinnipiac is 12-17 on the year.
• The Bobcats are led by Erin Larsen with a .473 on-base percentage and is second on the team with a .382 batting average.
• As a team, Quinnipiac is hitting .258, however, the squad has been outscored 156-106 by its opponents.
• Sophomore Casey Herzog leads the Quinnipiac pitching staff with 94 strikeouts and a 1.30 ERA.
SCOUTING MARIST
• The Red Foxes are 13-19 this season after splitting with Army at home on April 5.
• As a team, Marist is hitting .245, while being outscored by a 133-95 count on the season.
• Megan Beiermeister has a team-high six wins in 16 appearances in the circle in 64.2 innings of work entering the weekend.
SERIES HISTORY vs. MARIST
• Sunday’s twinbill will be the 48th and 49th all-time meetings between Canisius and Marist on the softball diamond.
• The Griffs lead the all-time series, 30-17.
• Canisius and Marist played two times in the 2017 season, with the Blue and Gold earning two losses.
