UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO ATHLETICS
The University at Buffalo track and field team split up this weekend to compete at the Florida Relays as well as the Geneseo Early Season Invite.
“The weather on Friday was warm (mid-70s) but raining, which made the conditions a little challenging with slick surfaces,” head coach Vicki Mitchell said. “Nonetheless, the Florida Relays was an excellent competition for our student-athletes.”
Florida Relays Highlights:
• Senior Mitchell Moore won his heat in the 400 hurdles in a person best time of 52.37 and placed 11th of 48 competitors. Moore’s time currently ranks #1 in the MAC, 13th in the NCAA East Region and is a MAC automatic qualifying time.
• Selina Von Jackowski won the college women’s long jump in 6.04m/19’9.75″, setting a new outdoor personal best mark. Her jump is currently the #1 jump in the MAC, tied for 19th in the NCAA East Region and is a MAC automatic qualifying mark.
• Miranda Daucher won the women’s college discus throw in 51.01m/167-04″ – a MAC automatic qualifying mark. She threw competitors from Iowa, Virginia Tech, Florida, and other Power Five schools.
• Devon Patterson set a new season’s best mark in the shot put with a toss of 18.39/60’04.00 to place 5th overall, while Ryan Cribbin threw a new season’s best mark of 17.68m/58’00.25″. Both are automatic qualifying marks for the MAC, and they ranked #1 & 2 in the MAC. Patterson’s mark moves him up on the NCAA eEast Regional list to 9th currently.
“The Geneseo Early Season Invite gave a great chance for some of our younger student-athletes to get in their first competition of the year, and for the experienced student-athetes to work on refining skills and tactics,” Mitchell said “It was a windy day, cool, but sunny.”
Geneseo Early Season Invite Highlights
• Ray Anikwue won the men’s 100m in a new personal best mark of 10.79 moving him up on the MAC rankings to his highest ranking to date of 4th. Oscar Vazquez, in his first outdoor college meet, ran a personal best mark of 15:33.00/5000m, placing 2nd overall in a field of 51 runners.
• Connor Spiegel placed 2nd in the high jump and Jason Farrell placed 2nd in the men’s pole vault.
• Jhada Francis won the women’s 100m in 12.29.
• Earnie Burapan won the women’s pole vault in 11’00.75″.
• Sam Spinella set a season’s best in the women’s long jump of 17’10.75″.
• Sophomore Christal Thompson ran a personal best in the 200m, 25.79, as she continues to improve her marks in all of the sprint events.
• Joanna Hallisy took home 2nd in the women’s shot put and 1st in the discus throw in a personal best mark of 42.45m/139’03”.
