RALEIGH, N.C. – The Niagara softball team defeated Marist, 9-1, in its final game of the Homewood Suites by Hilton RDU/RTP Challenge on Sunday.

Game Recap

  • Niagara took a quick lead over the Red Foxes with a monster second inning. With bases loaded, Harrigan singled to the pitcher, scoring Margaret Vesneske. Kendall Watkins singled to short to send Taylor Moody and Sarah Trifoso home. With two runners on base, Haberman homered to left field, giving NU the 6-0 lead. Jerri Ann Orfano then went yard for the fifth time this season, extending the Purple Eagles’ lead to 7-0.
  • Marist got on the board in the fourth inning, but the Purple Eagles still held a commanding 7-1 lead.
  • In the top of the fifth, Harrigan knocked one out of the park, also scoring Moody to ice NU’s 9-1 win.


Inside the Numbers

  • Harrigan and Haberman led the Purple Eagles with three RBIs each and Watkins had two RBIs.
  • Harrigan and Watkins each had a team-best two hits.
  • Harrigan and Moody led the team in runs scored with two each.
