LATHAM — Major General Anthony P. German, the Adjutant General for the State of New York, announces the recent retirement of members of the New York Army National Guard, marking their end of service to community, state and nation as part of the Army National Guard.
They include:
- Chief Warrant Officer 4 Michael Risewick from Leroy, assigned to the Company B, 642nd Support Battalion, who retired last month after some 37 years of military service. Risewick first entered the military in February 1981.
- Staff Sergeant Marc Olsen from Buffalo, assigned to the Company C, Recruiting and Retention Battalion, who retired last month after some 21 years of military service. Olsen first entered the military in September 1996.
- Major Karl Berg from Rochester, assigned to the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 102nd Military Police Battalion, who retired last month after some 28 years of military service. Berg first entered the military in June 1989.
- Staff Sergeant Melvin Jopson from Rochester, assigned to the Headquarters, 106th Regiment (Regional Training Institute), who retired last month after some 21 years of military service. Jopson first entered the military in August 1986.
- Command Sergeant Major Martin Foos from Hilton, assigned to the Headquarters, 153rd Troop Command (Brigade), who retired last month after some 35 years of military service. Foos first entered the military in May 1982.
“It is a bittersweet achievement, each time we celebrate the retirement for one of our National Guard Citizen Soldiers,” German said. “I want to applaud the accomplishment and the milestone of more than 20 years of service not only of these Soldiers, but of their families and civilian employers. We say that we recruit Soldiers in the Army National Guard, but we know that to make this a career we retain families,” German said.
“On behalf of our force, I want to wish only the greatest success for all the future endeavors of our retirees as they embark on new chapters of their lives.”
