SALAMANCA — A 42-year-old Salamanca woman was charged Sunday with driving while intoxicated and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance following a traffic stop.

According to New York State Police, Troopers stopped Tonya Shongo, who was operating a Dodge Durango for a suspended registration. During the interview, an odor of alcoholic beverages was coming from Shongo and there were two open containers in the center console. SFSTs were administered and Shongo was arrested for DWI.  During the vehicle inventory drug paraphernalia was present inside the vehicle and a plastic baggie containing cocaine was found.

Shongo was taken to SP Olean for processing where she refused to submit to a sample to determine her BAC. She was arraigned in Great Valley Town Court where the judge released her on her own recognizance.
