LATHAM — Major General Anthony P. German, the Adjutant General of New York, announces the recent service accomplishment of members of the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their initial commitment to serve community, state and nation.
The newest Citizen Soldiers to complete Army basic combat training and advanced individual training were welcomed to their units during a New York Army National Guard battle handoff ceremony.
The New York Army National Guard welcomed 111 new Soldiers to their units during the May 21 ceremonies around the state, including the following:
- Pvt. Austin Stanley of Amherst (14228), who joins the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion during a transition ceremony held at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pfc. Chance Ahlberg of Spencerport (14559), who joins the Company C, 427th Brigade Support Battalion during a transition ceremony held at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
- Pfc. Christian Nyarko of Buffalo (14214), who joins the 152nd Engineer Company during a transition ceremony held at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pvt. Davian Walters of Rochester (14606), who joins the Company A, 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry during a transition ceremony held at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
- Pfc. Donald Wheeler of Olean (14760), who joins the 152nd Engineer Company during a transition ceremony held at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pvt. Gerald Bucino of Buffalo (14216), who joins the 105th Military Police Company during a transition ceremony held at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pfc. Harka Gurung of Rochester (14608), who joins the Headquarters and Support Company, 642nd Support Battalion during a transition ceremony held at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
- Pvt. Joseph Schaumloeffel of Cheektowaga (14227), who joins the 152nd Engineer Company during a transition ceremony held at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pvt. Nicholas Cali of Henrietta (14467), who joins the Troop A, 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry (Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Target Acquisition) during a transition ceremony held at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
- Pfc. Stephanie Mckenna of Buffalo (14201), who joins the Company B (Military Intelligence), 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion during a transition ceremony held at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pvt. Tessa Robertson of Buffalo (14220), who joins the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion during a transition ceremony held at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
- Pfc. Vanessa Morales of Rochester (14612), who joins the Company C, 427th Brigade Support Battalion during a transition ceremony held at the Patriot Way Armory in Rochester.
- Pvt. Victor Smith of Niagara Falls (14305), who joins the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion during a transition ceremony held at the Masten Avenue Armory in Buffalo.
The ceremony marks their completion of the National Guard Recruit Sustainment Program, a preparatory training program that provides new recruits with training, lessons and skills to excel at their initial military training.
The Soldiers will now embark on their traditional National Guard service to state and nation as part-time Citizen Soldiers.
“The handoff ceremony marks the introduction of our new Soldiers to their unit and receiving new shoulder insignia, highlighting the start of their military service here in New York to serve state and nation,” German said. “I congratulate these Soldiers for their initial accomplishments in training as their first milestone of a career as a Citizen Soldier.”
