It’s a happy day in Buffalo. Even more so if you’re among the large number of Bills fans who have already ordered a Tre’Davious White jersey with a big old #1 on the back, that of course symbolizing his first round selection by the team at the NFL Draft this spring. Alas, there’s also no harm in ordering yet another Tre jersey once he picks his official player number this fall since he is now officially a member of the Buffalo Bills.
White sat down and signed his entry level rookie contract with the team after practice today to officially kick off his NFL career wearing Buffalo’s iconic red, white, and blue kits.
Considering the state of the Bills’ secondary as it stands, this report is most definitely music to my ears. With the recent departures of both Nickell Robey Coleman and Stephen Gilmore at the back end of the defense, plus legitimate concerns surrounding the health of veteran safety Aaron Williams, Tre’Davious White has a glorious opportunity to make his presence felt in order to secure a starting spot on the roster come fall.
White is supremely athletic, aggressive in his pursuit of pass coverage, and will be a much needed addition to the secondary as a CB who can comfortably spend time defending slot receivers – something the Bills tend to struggle with on defense. Don’t believe me? Just ask Tom Brady. Actually, don’t. Too many bad memories.
I have a good feeling that Tre will be hungrier than ever now that the NFL money is on the table and that his future lies firmly within his own hands. Head Coach Sean McDermott and Defensive Coordinator Leslie Frazier will most certainly be watching their first round draft pick closely throughout training camp this summer and so should the rest of the division for that matter.
I’m looking at you, Tom Brady.
