LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Niagara Purple Eagles will finish their season at the 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Lawrenceville, New Jersey on May 6-7.

The 2017 MAAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships is a two-day event featuring 10 MAAC institutions. The MAAC Championships start on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the women’s hammer throw, long jump and pole vault. The track events start at 2:15 p.m. On Sunday, the field events start at 10 a.m. followed by the track events at noon.

Six Purple Eagles set season-best times and five had personal-best marks in day one of the 2016 championships. Caroline Hampton and Danielle Dorogi had season best times in the 1500m. Destiny Johnson and Becca Lawrence had season-best times in the 100m while Monique McBride and Lilly Lupinetti had person-best times. Sarah Grubbs ran a personal-best time in the 800m, Gionvanna Hibbard ran a season-best time in the 200m, Rachel Wisely (400m) and McBride (long jump) had personal-best performances. Maggie Gerard wrapped up her freshman campaign with a sixth place in the shot put (11.66m). Mara Skyordynski placed fifth in the 400m (58.81). Niagara finished eighth with 17 points, ahead of Siena and Canisius.

At the UB Invitational, Caroline Hampton finished fourth in the 800m with a season-best time of 2:24.32. Kelly Nichols had a personal best time of 13.20 to finish 11th in the 100m. Freshman Elizabeth Suhay set a school record in the triple jump (10.09m). Morgan Palmer finished fourth in the discus throw. Her fifth throw went 39.14m. Maggie Gerard was sixth (31.85m) followed by a season-best toss by Erin Clark (29.0m). Gerard, Palmer and Clark all had personal records in the shot put. Gerard placed fourth in the shot put with a 12.10m toss on her third attempt. Palmer was fifth with a toss of 11.83m and Clark was eighth (8.66m). Maggie Gerard and and Morgan Palmer won the shot put and discuss throw, respectively, to give Niagara 19 points at the Wolfie Invitational hosted by Stony Brook University. Gerard set a personal best with a 12.07m toss in the shot put, while Palmer broke her own school rescord in the discuss (41.05m).hed second in the shot put with a personal-record toss (11.81m) and Erin Clark finished with a personal best toss of 8.23m. Morgan Palmer set a school record in the discus throw en route to claiming first place in the event at the SUNY Geneseo Early Season Invite. Palmer’s fourth throw went 40.95m. Sophomore Maggie Gerard finished seventh in the discus throw with a personal best of 34.40m. Freshman Elizabeth Suhay had a top-10 placement in the long jump. Suhay finished 10th (4.81m). Three Purple Eagles – Jamie Guadagno, Maggie Gerard and Alex Laubert – finished in the top-10 in their respective events at the 22nd Annual Monmouth Season Opener. Jamie Guadagno placed ninth in the long jump (4.75m), Maggie Gerard finished the shot put in ninth place (11.82m), and freshman Alex Laubert ran the 100m hurdles in 16.62 which was good enough for eighth place.
