Canisius head men’s soccer coach Dermot McGrane announced today that his program will hold its first weekend residential summer soccer camp July 21-23, 2017 on the campus of Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.

The residential camp will allow campers to experience what it is like to be a Division I men’s soccer player at Canisius. Campers will stay in the College’s dorms, eat in the dining hall and go through the same training sessions the Golden Griffins experience every day.

“We are very excited to announce our first weekend residential summer camp,” McGrance said. “Our recent ID camps have been so successul in previous years that we have decided to upgrade the camp so we can work with players for an entire weekend, rather than just a for a few hours on one day. Over half of our current roster attended previous ID camps, and being able to see potential student-athletes here plays a major role in our decision to recruit them to become members of our program.”

McGrane and his staff strive to create a competitive training environment that will be enjoyable for each camper.  The training sessions will focus on the technical, tactical and fitness dimensions required to play at the collegiate level.  Games played in the evening will allow campers the chance to put what they have learned during the day into a competitive contest.

The camp staff is comprised of top notch Division I and Division III coaches, and McGrane also invites many area coaches to attend the evening games in an effort to give campers maximum exposure.

“In addition to recruiting talented players, we strongly evaluate personality and character through the recruiting process,” McGrane said. “This camp setting will allow myself and my staff to work with potential college soccer players and give them an understanding of exactly what is expected at the collegiate level, both on the field and in the campus community.”
