ALBANY — The Niagara Purple Eagles’ season ended on Sunday with a 5-2 defeat against the Siena Saints.

The Purple Eagles led 2-0 before the Saints rallied to come away with the win. Niagara won the doubles point for the second straight match, winning all three matches. The No. 2 team of Josh Wilson and Taylan Ozdemir won 6-1 and NU clinched the point in three doubles when the tandem of Jason Wisely and Taylan Ozdemir won, 6-2. No. 1 doubles team of Francis Nadeau and Felipe Fuentes edged its opponent, 7-5. NU took a 2-0 lead after Fuentes won his No. 1 singles match in straight sets. The Saints, however, tied the match by picking up wins in two and three singles with Nadeau falling in three sets in three singles. Siena took a 3-2 lead after winning in four singles and clinched the match with a three-set win in six singles.

Three doubles teams – Francis Nadeau/Felipe Fuentes (4-3), Lukas Wenninger/Josh Wilson (3-2), Jason Wisely/Taylan Ozdemir (3-0) – finished with winning records in league play. Three of the singles matches went into three sets. Freshman Taylan Ozdemir finished the season with a team-high 12 singles wins. Seniors Francis Nadeau and Felipe Fuentes finish their careers tied second on the team with eight singles wins.
