UR Medicine’s Neuromedicine and Behavioral Health Center celebrates its opening on March 29. The center brings together Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, Child Neurology, and Child Psychiatry to collaborate on care for pediatric patients, and is home to the new Levine Autism Clinic that provides specialized care for patients with autism spectrum disorder.
This is the region’s first stand-alone center to integrate care of autism with pediatric neuromedicine and child and adolescent psychiatry services, and will serve more than 25,000 patients each year.
UR Medicine’s new 90,000-square-foot, three-story building, located at 200 East River Road, has created space to relocate outpatient imaging, interventional radiology clinics as well as autism/neuromedicine/behavioral health pediatric programs from the University of Rochester Medical Center campus to an easily accessible location along the I-390 corridor. The site will be a regional destination for patients and families seeking specialized pediatric services.
The Neuromedicine and Behavioral Health Center fosters collaboration between specialists from different disciplines who often share care of patients. Building one space for patients to see many specialists at one time, and shifting these programs from Strong Memorial Hospital to an ambulatory site, provides easier access for patients and families.
The nature-themed clinic environment features subtle lighting, oblique architectural angles, soft colors and noise-reduction features to meet the unique physical, sensory, and environmental needs of patients. Clinical teams as well as patients and their families had input on the design of the space.
“Children and families thrive when they receive care where they feel safe, calm and comfortable,” said Pediatrician-in-Chief Nina Schor, M.D. Ph.D., of the Golisano Children’s Hospital. “We are proud to be a leader in patient-centric care and provide this model to all of our patients and families.”
The project was supported by a $1 million gift from the William and Mildred Levine Foundation.
The Neuromedicine and Behavioral Health Center is in the top floor of the building; UR Medicine’s state-of-the-art Outpatient Imaging Center is housed in the first and second floors. The new outpatient imaging center includes the region’s first outpatient interventional radiology clinic. It also enables UR Medicine’s Strong Memorial Hospital to retool its imaging operations for patients on inpatient units. All adult outpatient imaging services will be offered beginning in early June.
