Gene Donald Vollmer, age 91, of Lockport passed away, on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, in Lockport.

Gene was born on October 16, 1925 in, Matamoras Pennsylvania, grew up in Port Jervis New York, and graduated from Port Jervis High School in 1942. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving aboard the USS Wiley in World War II. Gene graduated from Union University Albany College of Pharmacy in 1949. Gene was the owner and operator of Parsons Drug Company with locations in Lockport and Wrights Corners, for many years. Gene was a past member of the Lockport Kiwanis Club, the Tuscarora Club, the Wilson Yacht Club, the Olcott Yacht Club, Power Squadron and the Lockport Town and Country Club. He was past Master of the Red Jacket Lodge # 646, and a member of the Ismailia Shriner’s. A former Lockport Volunteer of the year, Gene volunteered his services for Meals on Wheels, and Niagara County Hospice. He was also on the Board of Directors of the Salvation Army and a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, serving as lay leader for several years, organizing the Lenten Luncheons for the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents Howard Vollmer and Della Hector Vollmer and his wife Carolyn Terhune Vollmer.

Gene is survived by his wife, Janis R. Smith-Vollmer of Lockport, his daughter, Beth Anne Vollmer of Davenport, Florida. Step son Jeffrey J. Smith (Kathleen) of Pekin, Melissa Smith McGregor (Robert) of Divide Colorado, a grand-daughter, Carolyn Jennifer Marino, two step grandsons, Jeffrey J. Smith Jr., of Rochester

(Linda) and Tyler R. Smith of Buffalo, and two step great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family, this summer in Lockport.
