BUFFALO — Canisius junior Erika Mackie has been named the MAAC Pitcher of the Week, the MAAC office announced today (March 8). Mackie is the fourth Canisius player, and second pitcher on the team’s pitching staff, to earn a weekly award from the conference this season.

Mackie went 1-1 last week in two starts, where she allowed four runs, three earned, on 13 hits while fanning 11 and walking two in 14 innings of work. In the Griffs’ win over Furman March 3, the Scranton, Pennsylvania native went the distance and struck out a career-high nine batters as the Blue and Gold scored a 3-0 victory over the co-host Paladins in eight innings at the Upstate Classic. In her start against co-host USC Upstate March 4, she gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits and she struck out two as the Blue and Gold fell to the Spartans 4-0.

For the season, Mackie is 3-4 with a 2.95 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 40.1 innings of work. She has made six starts, and she has five complete-games to her credit this season.

Canisius is 6-7 on the year after going 2-2 last weekend in South Carolina. The Griffs will return to action Friday, March 10, with a pair of games on the first day of the Under Armour Classic in Tampa, Florida. Canisius is scheduled to start that three-day event with games against Central Connecticut State and Butler.
