BUFFALO — Four athletes of Buffalo State’s men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams have earned United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors for the 2017 season, announced yesterday per the association’s release.
Mohamed Kouyate (Bronx/Dreamyard Prep) and Robert Liebel (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) were named to the men’s All-Region team while Catarra Burroughs (Rochester/Wilson Magnet) and Dayonna Holmes (Rochester/Charlotte) were honored on the women’s side.
Kouyate’s nomination comes after the junior sprinter was officially selected to vie for a national championship in the 400-meter dash this weekend at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Ill. He enters the championship meet with the 12th-fastest time in the nation this season (49.03 seconds) and will compete in the prelims this Friday at 2:20 p.m. CST.
Liebel picked up the honor in the 200-meters after placing first in the event at the ECAC Championships this past weekend. The junior hospitality administration major also won a pair of individual titles in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash and was named the Most Outstanding Track Athlete of the Meet at the 2017 SUNYAC Indoor Championships.
Burroughs was named All-Region in both the 60-meter and 200-meter events while Holmes earned the award in the 200-meter and long jump. Both Holmes and Burroughs earned second team All-Conference honors at this year’s SUNYAC Indoor Championships.
