BUFFALO — Junior Connor Mergler (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) won his third-consecutive title in the 100 free, pacing Buffalo State’s men to a sixth-place finish tonight in the final evening of the SUNYAC Championships at the Flickinger Aquatic Center.

Mergler won his third SUNYAC title of the meet, capturing the 100 free by more than a full second with an NCAA B-cut time of 44.86 seconds (he swam 44.79 in prelims).  Mergler has previously won the 50 free and was the co-champion in the 200 free. Mergler also joined Dan Kuznetsov (Williamsville/Williamsville South), Cody Wittmeyer (Boston/Hamburg) and Ryan McHale (Lancaster/Lancaster) to shatter the school record in the 400 free relay, placing third with a time of 3:08.87. Wittmeyer and Kuznetsov also scored in the 100 free, placing 14th (48.66) and 16th (49.43) respectively. Tom DePasquale (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) took down the school record in the 200 fly, clocking 1:59.87 in the prelims, and placing 10th in the finals with a time of 2:01.71. Tyler Minnick (Latham/Shaker) also scored in the event, claiming 16th (2:11.03).
Tim Petranchuk (Cheektowaga/Cheektowaga) added an 11th-place finish in the 1,650 free (17:20.38). Anthony Humphries (Trumansburg/OMCS) and Jake Brigham (Binghamton/Binghamton) added points in the 200 breast.  Humphries placed 12th (2:18.89) and Brigham was 16th (2:20.78). Kelly Lindner (W. Seneca/W. Seneca West) and Shannon Coyne (W. Seneca/W. Seneca East) collected individual points on the women’s side in the 1-meter dive.  Lindner placed 12th (318.25), and Coyne was 16th (297.85).

Buffalo State set six school records during the championship meet.

Mergler will prepare for the NCAA Division III Championships to be held in Shenandoah, Texas on March 15-18.
