YOUNGSTOWN — A traffic stop on Lockport Street late Friday night resulted in an arrest of an armed suspect — after the suspect fled on foot.

According to the Niagara County Sheriffs Office, a Village of Youngstown Police Department officer made a traffic stop behind 310 Lockport St. around 11 p.m. Upon making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, the officer recognized a passenger as 23-year-old Myquan Pringle, whom she knew to have an active arrest warrant for second-degree robbery out of the City of Niagara Falls.

Upon removing Pringle from the vehicle and asking for identification, Pringle fled on foot and entered the rear of 310 Lockport St. An exterior perimeter was immediately set up as several units from Niagara County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police responded for assistance. Pringle was known to be armed and was considered dangerous.

The Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team (ERT) was activated and responded. The ERT team entered the building, which contained eight apartments, and cleared each one in search of the suspect. The suspect was located in a second-floor apartment and was armed with a hatchet. He was taken into custody without incident.

The incident is still under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Unit and further charges are pending.
