BUFFALO — The University at Buffalo women’s tennis team swept the Mid-American Conference weekly awards on Wednesday afternoon as sophomore Chantal Martinez Blanco was named MAC Singles Player of the Week, while Martinez Blanco and freshman Anna Savchenko were named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week.
Martinez Blanco went a perfect 4-0 including a pair of straight sets wins in singles. On Friday, Martinez Blanco played first singles against Detroit, winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. On Saturday, Martinez Blanco played second singles against West Virginia and she again won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 defeating her foe from the Big 12 Conference. She improved to 11-3 in singles action this year with the pair of wins.
In doubles action, Martinez Blanco and Savchenko went a perfect 2-0 this past weekend. On Friday, the duo won at first doubles 6-2 against Detroit and on Saturday they moved to second doubles where they won 6-4 against West Virginia. They are now a perfect 3-0 in dual action and 5-2 all together in doubles play.
The Bulls will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Syracuse on Saturday at 11:00 am, followed by a joint match with the men’s team on Sunday when both squads host Quinnipiac at 12:00 pm.
