GENEVA, Ohio – The records just keep falling for the University at Buffalo Bulls, as the track and field team competed at the Spire D-1 Invitational this Friday. The Bulls saw outstanding performances from a number of athletes, and Barrett Kemp was able to break a program record that had been standing since 2003.
Barrett Kemp’s performance in the men’s 5000m crushed one of the oldest school records in program history. Former Bull Jerimie Slick previously set the record in 2003; Slick is Buffalo’s only new era D-1 NCAA Cross Country Championships qualifier. Kemp’s time of 14:20.25 crushed the previous record and beat his own personal best by 18 seconds. His time was a MAC Auto-qualifier and is currently ranked fourth in the conference. Kemp’s finish also placed him third in the competition.
The success did not stop there for the Bulls, Jess Dhaliwall and Craig Kaiser had outstanding performances in their respective fields as well. Dhaliwall hit a new personal best in the weight throw with a distance of 60′ 4″. Her throw currently ranks fourth in the Mid-American Conference. Kaiser put his name into the record books with his performance in the 1000m. Placing third in the event, he ran a second All-Time Performance for the program with a time of 2:23.59. The 1000m is considered a “non-MAC” event, his time is seventh in the NCAA thus far this season.
