ALBANY — The New York State Senate passed a comprehensive ride-sharing bill this afternoon, paving the way for services such as Uber and Lyft, to operate in Western New York.

State Sen. Rob Ortt, R-North Tonawanda, called it a “major step forward in bringing ride-sharing services here to Western New York. The overwhelming support for this comprehensive bill shows Upstate New York and its riders are no longer willing to take a back seat when it comes to safe, reliable, and affordable transportation that’ll boost our economy. It’s time for the Assembly Democrats and the governor to get on-board, so that we can bring this critical service and economic jump-start to our communities.”

The Senate bill passed by a 53-5 vote.
