BUFFALO — University at Buffalo swimming and diving’s junior swimmer Itai De La Vega was named Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

A management major with a 3.596 GPA, De La Vega has had an impressive junior campaign thus far. De La Vega helped lead his team to two victories this past weekend over St. Bonaventure and 2016 MAC Champions, Eastern Michigan, breaking the Eagles streak of 72 straight wins against MAC opponents. De La Vega had a stellar performance against St. Bonaventure, taking first in three different events. De La Vega helped lead his 400 Free Relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 3:06.64. He also placed first in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:24.14, beating out second place by over four seconds. De La Vega took away an individual first place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 21.49. He helped lead his team to a third-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, clocking in at 1:32.51. De La Vega also clocked in at 3:11.40 in the 400 Free Relay for a fourth-place finish. His time of 21.44 in the 50 Free led him to a third-place finish, and helped seal in the win.

The Bulls return to the pool on Saturday as they travel to Cleveland State. The meet begins at 2:00 pm.
