The University at Buffalo named JoAnna Smith and Mason Miller as its Athletes of the Week.

Senior JoAnna Smith continued her strong play for the Bulls this week as she helped UB go 1-1 with a road win at Western Michigan. The Southaven, MS native averaged 38.0 minutes, 26.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals while leading UB in scoring both games. On Wednesday night, Smith went off for a team-best 26 points, three rebounds and two assists as she was able to connect on a season-high six three pointers across 38 minutes. Smith moved into third place on UB’s all-time three pointers made list with 167 career triples. On Saturday, Smith continued her high level of play as she was able to net a game-high 27 points on 11-for-20 from the floor and 5-for-11 from behind the arc. With her 27-point effort, Smith moved into 11th place on UB’s all-time scoring charts with 1,172 career points, just one point shy of entering the top-10. Through nine MAC games, Smith ranks third in the MAC in scoring (21.0 PPG) and second in three pointers made (30).

Mason Miller had an outstanding performance this past weekend for the Bulls. Against St. Bonaventure, Miller helped lead his 400 Free Relay team to a first place finish. He swam anchor for the team, and helped them clock in at 3:06.64, nearly four seconds ahead of second place. Miller also placed second in the 200 Free with a time of 1:42.73. Miller’s four first place finishes against Eastern Michigan helped push the team ahead to snap the Eagles 72-meet win streak. Miller took first in the 50 Free with a time of 20.69, first in the 100 Free in 45.34, and first in the 100 Fly with 49.20. He helped lead his 400 Free Relay team to a first place finish. Miller swam anchor yet again, and helped pull ahead in the last few laps to clock the team in at 3:03.21.
