BUFFALO — After a successful first meet of the 2016-2017 season, the track and field team are preparing to travel to Ithaca.

This past meet, the Bulls saw success across the board, with the men placing third overall and the women placing fourth. Senior, Kaishaun Cathey, broke the school record in the triple jump with a first place finish of 15.81m, beating his personal best by nearly two feet and ranking him first in the MAC in the event. Cathey is also currently ranked fourth in the NCAA in the triple jump. Freshman, Gyasi Morris was also successful in his Bulls debut, being the highest placed Bull in the long-jump with a distance of 6.75m and an eighth place finish. Devon Patterson, Ryan Cribbin, and James Hanners were successful on the field side for the men as well. Patterson and Cribbin took first and second, respectively, in the shot put; while Hanners took eighth. Jess Dhaliwall, a junior for the Bulls, placed fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 18.13m. This was a personal best distance; it also helped to rank her third in the MAC and was a MAC Auto-qualifying mark.

Last year, the Bulls were led at the Upstate Challenge by the field events. Megan Patterson is hoping to have a repeat performance of last year; Patterson took gold in the shot put. Joanna Hallisy is hoping to improve upon her fourth place finish in the shot put from last year. Miranda Daucher and Dhaliwall are also looking to improve this year. The two took third and eighth, respectively, in the weight throw at the competition last year. Tyra Forbes and Mikayla Pearce will also be looking for success again this year in the long jump. Forbes finished second last year, and Pearce finished fifth.

With just under six weeks until the MAC Championships, the Bulls are ready to compete for a title.

The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
