BROCKPORT — Nico McLean (Buffalo/Amherst) became Buffalo State’s 23rd 1,000-point scorer, but host Brockport spoiled the Bengals’ celebration with a 94-83 victory tonight in a SUNYAC contest.

McLean needed just three points to reach the milestone and got it out of the way in the first half. He finished with 12 points for the game. Lovell Smith (Buffalo/McKinley) led the Bengals with 26 points. Mike Henry (Syracuse/West Genesee) had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, and J.O. Spence (Brooklyn/Bayard Rustin) also chipped in 10 points. Buffalo State led by five early, but Brockport used a 13-2 run late in the first half to take a lead it would never surrender.

The Golden Eagles were up 48-32 at the intermission, and led by as many as 23 in the second half, never allowing the Bengals to cut the deficit to single digits. Buffalo State outrebounded Brockport 45-31, but the Golden Eagles had a 62-42 scoring advantage in the paint. Brockport also had a 23-4 advantage in points off turnovers as the Bengals turned it over 19 times.
