BUFFALO — Jason Estevez of the University at Buffalo wrestling team was named the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week after an outstanding weekend.

Estevez earned a pair of first period pins to go 2-0 over the weekend in wins against Columbia and Sacred Heart. Estevez needed only 1:08 to pin Jacob Macalolooy, a 10-win wrestler from Columbia, on Saturday. On Sunday, he recorded two take downs and a 4-point near fall before pinning Adrian Nelson 1:40 into the match.

After a slow start to the season, Estevez has now won three straight dual matches. He won the clinching match in UB’s first ever win over Indiana on December 18 and won his last two matches with first-period pins. He is 6-3 overall and 4-1 in dual matches on the season.

Estevez is the third Buffalo wrestler to win MAC Wrestler of the Week this season. James Benjamin won the award on December 1 and Colt Cotten took home the honor on December 21.

The Bulls will host 7th-ranked Missouri on Thursday night at Alumni Arena.
