CAMBRIA — A 43-year-old Newfane woman was charged Friday evening with driving while intoxicated while her two teenage children were in the vehicle — a Leandra’s Law violation.

According to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 7:26 p.m. a deputy observed a black Honda Civic on Saunders Settlement Road near Junction Road in the Town of Cambria partially parked in the roadway with the engine running. The Honda Civic was occupied by the driver, Amy J Kling, and two teenagers. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the above vehicle, at which point, Kling drove away, westbound on Saunders Settlement Road. A chase ensued with several deputies joining. The Honda continued at speeds of around 40 miles per hour for approximately seven miles. Spike strips were successfully deployed by deputies at the intersection of Saunders Settlement and Cambria-Lewiston Townline roads. The Honda continued north on Townline Road for a short time until three of its tires deflated from the spike strips — and eventually stopped.

While the deputies were interviewing Kling, it was determined she was intoxicated. She was subsequently arrested for felony driving while intoxicated, endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangerment along with several other vehicle and traffic charges.

Kling was remanded to the Niagara County Jail in lieu of $750 Bail.
