WASHINGTON D.C. — New York’s junior U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand joined a growing chorus of senators on Sunday in demanding an investigation into claims that Russia influenced the presidential election.

Schumer and Arizona Senator John McCain have been calling for a special bipartisan select committee to investigate Russia’s role in hacking emails related to the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta.

Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and Sen. Jack Reed, a Democrat from Rhode Island joined in their plea to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to form a select committee to investigate the hacks that may have influenced the presidential election.

On Sunday, Gillibrand said she agreed with Schumer and the others that an investigation must be held to determine what happened and be able to prevent it from happening again.

McConnell, while calling the claims — originally made by the CIA and backed up by the FBI — “disturbing,” has not signed on to the concept of a select committee investigation.
