HAMILTON — Connor Mergler (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) won the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle events as Buffalo State competed in the two-day Hamilton College Invitational.  The men’s team finished fifth out of six teams, while the Bengals’ women were eighth out of eight teams.

Mergler touched first in the 50 yard freestyle with a finals time of 21.56 and in the 100 free at 46.98, beating out his closest competitor in the event by almost two full seconds and setting a meet record.  He also finished third in 100 yard butterfly with a time of 54.79. Alyssa Greymont (Morgan Hill, CA/Flex Academy) placed third in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:22.44.  She also finished sixth in the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:02.76. Tom DePasquale (Tonawanda/Kenmore West) came in fourth in the 200 yard butterfly with a finals time of 2:10.01.
Cody Wittmeyer (Boston, NY/Hamburg) was right behind Mergler in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle.  He finished fifth in both events, going 22.91 in the 50 and 49.92 in the 100.
Dan Kuznetsov (Williamsville/Williamsville South) finished eighth in the men’s 500 yard free (5:05.83) and seventh in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.93). Justin Moser (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) finished sixth in the 3 meter dive with a finals score of 160.05 and fifth in the 1 meter dive at 198.85. The men’s 200 yard freestyle relay team of Wittmeyer, Kuznetsov, Mergler and Kyle Callan (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) finished second with a finals time of 1:30.41. Mergler, Kuznetsov, Minnick and Wittmeyer also placed third in the 400 yard freestyle relay, finishing with a time of 3:20.00. The 400 yard medley relay squad of Mergler, Wittmeyer, Kuznetsov and Jake Brigham (Binghamton/Binghamton) finished sixth with a time of 3:49.76.

Buffalo State’s men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams get over a month off before returning to Kissinger Pool on Buffalo State’s campus for a dual meet against Oswego on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 1 p.m.
