DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its Division III North women’s soccer All-Star team today, naming Buffalo State’s Melissa Smith as a member of the first team.
Smith was Buffalo State’s scoring force that help lead the Bengals to a program-best 17 wins in 2016. Buffalo State won the SUNYAC regular-season and post-season title, and earned a NCAA Championship appearance, all firsts in program history.
Smith, a senior childhood education major, captured the SUNYAC Offensive Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season after leading the conference with 15 goals and 37 points over 20 games played. She tailed eight game-winning goals, good for fourth in all of Division III.
In just two seasons, Smith tallied 64 points in 40 games, ranking her fifth on the school’s all-time scoring list.
