The Canisius volleyball program had two players earn all-conference accolades as announced by the conference at the awards banquet on Thursday. Katlyn Tyler was named to the All-MAAC Second Team, while Cassidy Ceriani earned all-rookie team honors.

The Griffs senior leader finished fourth in the MAAC in kills per set, averaging 3.20 in her final campaign. That total is the second highest mark for a season in her career as a Griff.

Aside from leading the team in kills per set, she also paced the squad in digs per frame, with a 3.28 mark. That average placed her eighth in the league in the category. All told tyler accounted for 3.51 points per set, which was ranked fifth in the conference.

“I knew coming into the program that Katlyn was one of the strongest returning players,” head coach Lenika Vazquez said. “When she’s on the court she brings a level of competitiveness that the team needs. She became one of our strongest defensive players as well, leading the team in digs per set. KT was missed when she was out for five matches during the season, and to still be recognized as an All-Conference player is very humbling. She worked very hard for Canisius and her teammates and I’m so proud of her accomplishments”

Ceriani had a prolific first season as a Griff, recording a total of 787 assists and averaged 8.03 assists per set in her first season with the team. That mark put her sixth in the conference in assists per game, while she was the second-ranked freshman in helpers per set.

The conference took notice of her accomplishments during the season, as the first-year setter scored two rookie of the week awards throughout the season. Ceriani also made history recording the first triple-double by a Canisius player since 2004.

“Cassidy is a rock star for us,” Vazquez said. “She is not the loudest or biggest personality on the team but she works hard. Her work ethic pays off on the court and in the classroom. I am proud of the selfless and dedicated player she is for this team.”

The Blue and Gold also six players earn MAAC All-Academic awards, as Alexandra Brown, Donnett Hickson, Kristen Plukas, Gabrielle Vetere, Sara Wesley, and Samantha Zebuth, were all named to the to the team.

Canisius finished its season with a 7-20 overall record, with a 5-13 conference mark. The Blue and Gold finished in eighth place in the conference, tied with Iona, in head coach Lenika Vazquez’s first season with the team.
