The University at Buffalo Athletic Department has announced that Stephanie Ward and Russell Cicerone are its athletes of the week.

Ward had another spectacular showing for the Bulls’ women’s cross country team. The freshman proved, once again, to be a driving force as she helped pace the Bulls to a 12th place finish at the NCAA Northeast Regionals held on Friday in the Bronx.

She has been on top for the Bulls in each race this season. Ward completed the race in 21:08.30 and averaged a 5:41 mile. Her finishing time was enough for a 21st place finish and All-Region Team honors. This is the first time in program history that a freshman has been named to the All-Region Team.

Cicerone, a senior, finished off his amazing UB career with another strong weekend as he helped the Buffalo men’s soccer team advance to their second straight Mid-American Conference Championship match for the first time in program history. The four-time First Team All-MAC selection recorded an assist on David Enstrom’s game-winning goal in overtime against Bowling Green in the MAC Semifinals after collecting a team-high four shots in the match. The assist for Cicerone was his program record 22nd of the season. In Sunday’s MAC Championship match, the MLS hopeful produced the lone goal for the Bulls in their 2-1 loss as he went the distance of the field and buried a pretty goal to the left corner of the net, his career-best 14th goal of the season. For his efforts, Cicerone was named to the MAC All-Tournament team for the second straight season. On the year, the Bloomfield Hills, MI native scored a MAC-best 14 goals, nine assists and 37 points while ranking first in program history in assists in a career (22), second in goals in a career (42) and second in points in a career (106).
