While the price of gasoline in Western New York is unchanged from a week ago, the national average price for regular unleaded gasoline is now $2.17 per gallon, down four cents from last week. The New York State average is $2.39 per gallon, down 1 cent from last week. A year ago, the NYS average was $2.35.

In Buffalo and Rochester, gas remains $2.35 per gallon, but that price could decline in the coming weeks to follow the national trend.

The explosion at the Colonial Pipeline in Alabama, on October 31, was the latest factor to push prices up recently. Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) does expect prices to continue to drop. In fact, thousands of gas stations across the country are selling gasoline for under $2 per gallon. While prices may not reach that level for some time in New York State, they are expected to decline, which would be welcome news for holiday travelers. The next OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) meeting will be held at the end of this month and could determine oil production levels, which will further impact pump prices.
