Sen. Chuck Schumer will be returning to the U.S. Senate for another six years after handily defeating Wendy Long by a total of 4,693,947 votes to 1,831,172 — or 70.4 percent to 27.5 percent.

Schumer carried all but seven New York counties, four of which were in Western New York. Long won in Allegany, Orleans, Genesee, and Wyoming counties, as well as Steuben, Schuyler and Hamilton counties.

Ninety-five percent of Democrats statewide voted for Schumer’s re-election.
