CORTLAND — Nationally No.6-ranked Cortland scored a late goal and slipped past visiting Buffalo State 1-0 in today’s SUNYAC semifinal match at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

The two teams headed into the intermission scoreless after an evenly opening 45 minutes. The top-seeded Red Dragons started to take control in the second half and finally broke through in the 75th minute and held on for the narrow 1-0 victory. Cortland finished the game with a 15-8 edge in shots, including 8-3 in the second half. William Banahene (Rochester/Brighton) had five saves for Buffalo State.

The Bengals reached the 11 win mark for the first time since 2004 and just the second time since 1984. This was Buffalo State’s third playoff appearance in four years under head coach Mark Howlett. The Bengals win in the quarterfinals last Saturday was the program’s first postseason victory since 1984.
