Canisius freshman Gretta Dry recorded her fourth game-winning goal of the season to help lift the Golden Griffins to a 1-0 victory over Siena Wednesday afternoon at the Demske Sports Complex. Dry’s goal, her eighth of the year, came in the 54th minute off a cross from junior Taylor Kugler that bounced around the box, off a Siena defender and senior Sabrina Fitzgerald’s leg finally settling at Dry’s feet who trickled the ball in past the diving Saints’ goalkeeper.

With the win, Canisius finished the regular season 8-8-0 overall and 6-4-0 makr in the MAAC. The Griffs’ win, coupled with Marist’s 3-0 loss at Niagara, allows Canisius to enter the 2016 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship field as the No. 5 seed. The Blue and Gold will travel to play at No. 4 seed Quinnipiac on Saturday, Oct. 29, with a game time to be announced.

Freshman goalkeeper Alana Rossi had a fairly easy afternoon, as she only saw two shots from the Saints, stopping them both, including one in the 90th minute on a close range shot from Siena’s Tara Sobierajski.

Canisius travels to Hamden, Connecticut on Saturday to play Quinnipiac in the MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship first round game. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
