NIAGARA UNIV. — The Niagara women’s soccer team closed out the 2016 season with a dominant win over Marist.

Niagara got off to a quick start, scoring its first goal of the game in the first minute. Bachmann passed the ball to Bicknell, who scored first time in the low corner. Thorne scored her second goal of the season in the 28th minute to give the Purple Eagles a 2-0 lead. Bachmann and Thorne traded multiple short passes before Bachmann played Thorne into the box. The Purple Eagles continued their strong offensive showing in the second half of the match. In the 56th minute, Genovese scored her first goal of the season to put the game away for Niagara. Bachmann passed the ball to Bicknell, who then crossed the ball in front of the net to Genovese who put the ball in the back of the net.

In the first period, Niagara outshot Marist eight to three. The Purple Eagles outshot Marist 11 to 10 overall. Bachmann, Bicknell and Thorne led Niagara with two shots each. Bachmann earned a season-high three assists in the match and leads the team with six total assists.
