Freshman Cassidy Ceriani accomplished something that no Griffs player had since 2004, as the setter recorded a triple-double to help lead Canisius past Saint Peter’s, 3-1, in Jersey City, N.J. The San Diego, Calif. Native recorded 10 kills, 30 assists and 12 digs in the victory. With the win Canisius is now 6-14 overall and 4-7 in MAAC play while the Peacocks remain winless at 0-19 and 0-12 in conference.

In the match itself, the Blue and Gold split the first two sets with the Peacocks, winning the first 27-25, and dropping the second frame by a final score of 25-15.

In the third set, the Griffs took control, opening the frame on an 8-2 before forcing a Saint Peter’s timeout to regroup. The Blue and Gold got the score out to 15-6, capped by a Ceriani kill, before Saint Peter’s gained traction. The Peacocks edged the Griffs in scoring the rest of the way, 11-10, but it wasn’t enough as Canisius won the third frame 25-17.

That momentum carried through into the fourth as Canisius closed out Saint Peter’s 25-22, to complete the series sweep and earn a weekend split.

Katlyn Tyler had the most kills for Canisius, registering 16 and 17 digs for the double-double. Ceriani paced the team in assists with 30 while also being the only other player to reach double figure kills. She was also second on the team with 12 digs.

Canisius now heads home for a two-match set, starting with Siena on Saturday Oct. 29 and finishing with Marist on Oct. 30. Both matches are slated for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN3 on the Watch ESPN app.
