After a weekend off, the Canisius volleyball team gets back to action this weekend with a pair of road contests at Rider and Saint Peter’s. The match at Rider Oct. 22, is set to start at 4 p.m., with the MAAC matchup between the Golden Griffins and Peacocks scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Canisius saw its two-match winning streak come to an end Oct. 13, when the Blue and Gold lost to long-time rival Niagara by the score of 3-0. The Griffs entered the Niagara match having won two-straight five-set contests. Canisius beat Manhattan 3-2 on Oct. 8 before dropping Iona 3-2 on Oct. 9. The five-set victories over Manhattan and Iona marked the Griffs’ first back-to-back five-set wins since Sept. 20-21, 2008.

Canisius is 5-13 overall and 3-6 in MAAC play this season. Canisius senior Katlyn Tyler leads the Canisius offense with her 3.24 kills per set average, which ranks third in the MAAC. Freshman setter Cassidy Ceriani ranks third in the MAAC with her 7.91 assists per set. In the team’s win over Manhattan Oct. 8, Ceriani was credited with 61 assists, three assists shy of setting a program record. Ceriani also ranks among the MAAC leaders in service aces per set with 0.30.

Rider, meanwhile, is 11-11 overall and 5-5 in MAAC play this season. The Broncs defeated Canisius 3-0 when the teams met in Buffalo Sept. 25. The Broncs are riding a three-match winning streak after posting a sweep at home last weekend. Rider is 4-2 at home this year. Veronica Koval ranks third in the conference with her 8.51 assists per set this season. She also leads the MAAC in service aces, posting 0.47 per set. As a team, Rider ranks third in the league in team hitting percentage at .207.

Saint Peter’s is 0-17 overall and 0-10 on the year. The Peacocks are one of three teams in the country without a win this season. As a team, Saint Peter’s is hitting just .089 and the team averages 7.83 kills per set.

Canisius will return home Oct. 29-30 when the Griffs play host to Siena and Marist. Both matches are set to start at 1 p.m., and both contests will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
