The Purple Eagles men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams are set to compete in their second meet of the season on Saturday, Oct. 23. Niagara enters this week’s double-dual meet with Binghamton and Siena coming off of superb victories on both the men’s and women’s side over the Fredonia State Blue Devils back on Oct. 7.

In the womens team’s dominant 151-82 win against Fredonia, a trio of Niagara freshman each won two events in their Purple Eagles debut. Nastassja Posso earned victories in the 500 free (5:19.59) and 1000 free (11:00.77). Lauren Nicastro picked up individual wins as well in the 200 free (2:04.33) and 100 back (1:02.52). Kristen Suarez won both the 50 free (25.57) and 100 free (54.67). Julia Casolo, who won the 100 butterfly at the 2016 MAAC Championships, took first in that event at Fredonia to start the 2016-17 season. She swam Niagara’s fastest dual-meet 100 butterfly, finishing in 59.20.

The Niagara men defeated their counterparts at Fredonia by a score of 131-99 to open the season.
Shawn Warner finished tops in the 100 butterfly (52.74), and he also set a Niagara program record in the 100 IM. Warner earned Male Swimmer of the Week honors from the MAAC. Warner’s victorious first-place finish in the 100 IM versus Fredonia set a pool record for Fredonia’s Steele Hall Natatorium. James Crumm logged a double-win against Fredonia in the 200 free (1:49.55) and the 100 free (48.58). Four more Purple Eagles picked up individual wins in the victory against Fredonia: Robert Brown (50 free, 22.35), Daniel Ronen (1000 free, 10:12.71), Andreas Rintel (100 back, 55.23), and Danny Leskowicz (500 free, 5:05.14).
