The Canisius College women’s soccer team will travel to Jersey City, New Jersey to play at Saint Peter’s on Wednesday at 3 p.m.

Canisius knocked off visiting Iona on Saturday by a score of four to one. The Blue and Gold were lead by junior Shawna Adams who picked up her first three-point game as a Griffs as she tallied a goal and an assist. Prior to Saturday’s success, the Griffs had been losers of two straight after winning three of their four prior games.

Canisius currently sits in fifth place in the MAAC standings and would be on the road in the conference tournament as the top six teams make it to the post-season with the number one and two seeds receiving byes in the opening round. With the Griffs victory over Iona on Saturday, Canisius now has six wins on the season, which ties last year’s win total. Gretta Dry continues to make her case for Freshman of the Year as she remains the statistical leader of the Griffs in points (18), goals (7), assists (4) and game-winning goals (3).

The Griffs are an impressive 20-5-0 lifetime against the Peacocks, defeating the team last season by a 1-0 margin on Canisius’ Senior Day. The squads faced off in the first round of the MAAC tournament in 2005, a match that the Golden Griffins triumphed in 5-0. From 2004 to 2013 Canisius reeled off 11 straight victories over Saint Peter’s, a streak that was broken in 2014 when the Peacocks defeated the Griffs 3-1. Canisius won the first matchup between the two programs in 1992, by a score of 8-0.

Saint Peter’s is 1-10-2 on the year, holding a 0-6-1 record in the MAAC and are 1-5-1 at home. The team enters the bout as losers of their past eight contests with a 1-1 tie at Fairfield on Oct. 5. Their lone in came in the fourth game of season on Sept. 2. It was a 1-0 victory at home versus VMI. The Peacocks team leader is senior forward Genesis Castrellon as she leads the team in points with eight and goals with four of the Peacocks six total scores on the year. Wednesday’s game is Senior Day for the Peacocks.
