BUFFALO — A female cross country runner and a male soccer player were named as the University at Buffalo’s players of the week.

Freshman Stephanie Ward continues to be on top for the Bulls. She has been the first Bull to cross the finish line in each of the four races of the season. Most recently, Ward placed 25th at the Penn State National Invitational with a time of 20:59, averaging a 5:37 mile. Ward missed out on 24th place by a second.

Junior forward Scott Doney came in and played 44 big minutes for the Bulls on Saturday night as they were able to go on the road and pick up a big MAC win, defeating West Virginia 2-1. Doney entered the match in the 27th minute and immediately made a difference as the 6-5 New Zealander took a cross from Braden Culver and headed home his first goal of the season. The goal for Doney was the eventual game-winner, the second of his career, as the Bulls were able to down West Virginia for the second straight season. The road win for UB was their first win in Morgantown in program history.
