Canisius junior Shawna Adams got the scoring started in the 12th minute as the Golden Griffins rolled to a dominating 4-1 victory on Senior Day versus visiting Iona Saturday afternoon. The win moves the Blue and Gold to 6-7-0 overall and 4-3-0 in conference play.

The Griffs took a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute on a goal by freshman Gretta Dry, her seventh of the season. Canisius added another 53 seconds later after sophomore Melanie Linsmair headed a ball past Iona goalkeeper Tiffany Martinez off a cross from classmate Emily Czechowksi. The Griffs capped their scoring when sophomore Emma Westwater’s shot from 20-yards out bounced past Martinez and into the far lower corner of the frame. The assist on that goal was credited to freshman Madeline Beaulieu, her first career assist.

Freshman Alana Rossi was replaced at the half by junior Katie Aldrich, but she would return in the 65th minute after Aldrich collided with an Iona forward in the box. Iona scored its only goal of the game in the 71st minute on a quick give-and-go in the box. The goal snapped Rossi’s home scoreless streak at 347:29 minutes.

Canisius travels to Jersey City, New Jersey to play at Saint Peter’s on Wednesday. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
