The Bulls were able to record the first shot of the match in just the third minute of action as Celina Carrero had a shot that went just wide right. After the Broncos saw a shot go wide left, the Bulls countered and scored the first goal of the match in the ninth minute. Nicole Gerritz was able to split a pair of defenders and cross a perfect pass into the box where Carissima Cutrona netted her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Western Michigan didn’t waste any time tying up the score at one as Emma Kahn netted her third of the season in the 19th minute of play. The Broncos dominated play over the next 15 minutes and they were rewarded with their second goal of the match in the 35th minute. After Emma Kahn had her shot blocked, Kendall Juhnke collected the rebound and beat Laura Dougall to make the score 2-1 in favor of the home team. Carley Zoccali had the Bulls final chance of the first half in the 38th minute but her right-footed shot went wide of the goal as Wester Michigan took the 2-1 lead to the locker room.
The Bulls opened up the second half quick as Moira Petrie had the first shot of the second half in the 47th minute but her blast went just over the cross bar and out of play. In the 56th minute, the Bulls had a great chance to tie the game up as Carissima Cutrona headed the ball just wide of the right corner of the net. The Broncos nearly extended their lead to 3-1 in the 63rd minute of play but Paige Dobbs’ shot rang off the post and was cleared away by the UB defense. Two minutes later, Laura Dougall made a big stop on a Kendall Juhnke header to keep the score 2-1 in favor of the Broncos. Laura Dougall was asked to make a pair of saves in the 69th and 71st minutes of play and she was up to the task, giving the Bulls a chance to tie the score in the final 20 minutes of play.
Carissima Cutrona just missed the left corner of the net off of an Ashley Evans corner kick in the 74th minute as the Bulls were pressing for the tying goal. The Bulls had a flurry of chances for the game-tying goal in the 80th minute but Andrea Niper and Carissima Cutrona saw their shots blocked before Carley Zoccali had her blast saved by the WMU keeper.
The Bulls will stay on the road Sunday as they head to DeKalb, IL to take on Northern Illinois in their third straight road MAC match. Kick is set for 2 p.m.
