NIAGARA UNIV. — The Niagara women’s soccer team earned an exciting win over the Saint Peter’s Peacocks on Wednesday afternoon.

After a few tough losses, Niagara was back on track against Saint Peter’s, creating chances early in the first half. Shawnique Samuels had the Purple Eagles’ first shot of the game in the third minute; it went wide. Ortiz got the Purple Eagles on the board in the fifth minute. Phillips crossed the ball to Bachmann, who dummied the pass allowing Ortiz to hit it first time, bottom corner. Bachmann gave the Purple Eagles a 2-0 lead, scoring her second goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute. Ortiz scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 48th minute. Bicknell, who earned the first assist of her collegiate career, crossed the ball to Ortiz from the left corner. Ortiz’s shot slipped by the keeper into the bottom right of the net.

The Purple Eagles host Fairfield at 1 p.m. Saturday. Niagara will honor its graduating seniors prior to the start of the game.
