EDISON, N.J. – Niagara senior swimmer Shawn Warner earned Male Swimmer of the Week accolades from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) on Tuesday. It was the second Swimmer of the Week honor for Warner, who also picked up the conference award on Nov. 26, 2014.

Warner won two individual events in Niagara’s 131-99 win in a dual meet at Fredonia State College on Friday, Oct. 7, and set a program record in the process. Warner’s first-place finish in the 100 IM (52.71) was more than a second and a half faster than the previous record of 54.56 set by Andreas Rintel in 2015, and it was a pool record for Fredonia’s Steele Hall Natatorium. Warner now holds seven individual records at Niagara in addition to helping set four relay records in his career.

On Friday, Warner also took first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.74, and he helped Niagara to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:38.65). The Purple Eagles earned their third dual meet sweep of the Blue Devils in the last three seasons, as the women’s swimmers and divers won their meet by a commanding score of 151-82 in addition to the men’s victory.

The Purple Eagles return to the pool on Saturday, Oct. 22 in a double dual meet at Binghamton University, where Niagara will also compete with the Siena Saints.
