The Canisius men’s soccer returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Oct. 12, when the Golden Griffins play host to Marist at the Demske Sports Complex. Game time is set for 4 p.m., and the matchup will be broadcast live on ESPN3.

Canisius saw its four-game unbeaten stream come to an end Saturday when the Golden Griffins lost to Quinnipiac by a score of 1-0 in overtime. Canisius had three shots in overtime, but were unable to net the game-winner. The Bobcats earned the victory in the game’s 95th minute. Redshirt-junior Marco Trivellato made three stops in the loss. The last three Canisius vs. Quinnipiac meetings have been decided by the score of 1-0.

The Griffs’ defensive efforts have been strong this season, with the team allowing just nine goals in the first 11 contests of the year. Dating back to last season, the Canisius defense has held its opponents to two-or fewer goals in 20 consecutive outings. Redshirt-junior Marco Trivellato enters the game on Wednesday ranked second in the MAAC with his .830 save percentage and third in the league with his 0.79 goals against average.

In 20 previous meetings in the series between the Griffs and Red Foxes, Marist holds a 13-6-1 advantage against Canisius. The Griffs, however, have had the better of the rivalry as of late, posting a 5-3-1 record against the Red Foxes in the last nine years. Last season, the Griffs suffered a tough loss at Marist, as the Red Foxes scored with just 93 seconds left in regulation time to secure a 3-2 victory. The series is tied 1-1-1 in the last three encounters at the Demske Sports Complex.

Marist is 6-4-1 on the season and 1-2-0 in MAAC play after losing at Fairfield Oct. 8 by the score of 3-1. Cameron Harr leads the Red Foxes with 21 points and 10 goals this season. Simon Lund Jorgensen has a team-leading five assists. Mark Rajovic has played every minute in goal for Marist, posting a 1.41 goals against average and .750 save percentage.
