After the two teams played a scoreless 90 minutes of regulation time, the game went into overtime, where Canisius had three shots in the first 3:13 of the extra period. Quinnipiac’s first offensive push in overtime proved to set up the game winner, as senior Liam O’Sullivan led the charge up the field and sent a crossing-pass through the box that was deflected in front of the Griffs’ goal, right onto the foot of Dally, who banged home the game winner past the outstretched reach of Canisius keeper Marco Trivellato. The goal was the first of the season for Dally, and the win improved Quinnipiac to 2-1 in overtime games this season.
The Bobcats held a 20-18 advantage in shots, but neither team was successful in getting shots on frame. The Griffs had some quality chances in the first half, including a shot from junior Eric Strauchen that hit off the post in the 37th minute. Strauchen redirected a crossing feed past over the cross bar in overtime as well, one of the team’s three shots in the extra period of play.
Trivellato made three stops in the losing effort for Canisius, while Quinnipiac freshman goalkeeper Chrysostomos Iakovidis was credited with three saves en route to the team’s sixth shutout win of the 2016 campaign.
Canisius will play host to Marist at home on Wednesday. Kickoff at the Demske Sports Complex is set for 4 p.m.
