Helen Fritton, wife of the late Alfred Fritton, went off to her heavenly home October 7, 2016 in Odd Fellow & Rebekah Rehab & Health Care Facility. Born at the, then new Lockport City Hospital on June 20, 1913 Helen was the daughter of James and Idella Thompson Simpson.

Always proud of her Irish heritage, Helen’s grandmother was Ellen Mulrhoony, who came to America alone as a teenager in the mid 1800’s. Helen married Al, always the love of her life, at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church on May 20, 1939. Years back Helen was the tax collector for District #4, Town of Lockport. Then in the early 1950’s Helen and Al had meetings in their home with neighbors to discuss whether District #4 should remain with the City of Lockport School System or join with this new group that was for a centralize school system, late to be known as Starpoint. Which they did. Helen was a very active charter member of the South Lockport Fire Co.’s Ladies Auxiliary, where she held a life membership. She was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. Helen especially liked to cook and bake. She had worked in the cafeteria’s at Starpoint, Sears in Lockport and at Harrison’s. In the 1930’s Helen was a production worker at Harrison Radiator also. And at one time she was the Girl Scout Leader for the troop at Charlotte Cross Elementary School. Helen and Al had a summer cottage that they enjoyed in Cape Vincent, NY, on the beautiful St. Lawrence River. At the age of 99 Helen moved from her home of 73 years to Briarwood Manor. She was happy there and well-liked by their caring staff. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Alfred in 2005, daughter Linda Marie in 1953 and granddaughter Kathy, sister Marian “Dolly” Simpson and brother John, Dick, and Bob Simpson.

Mother of Lois H. Buck of Texas and Robert A. (Patricia) Fritton of Lockport; grandmother of 11; great grandmother (aka “Super Gramma” by some) of 27; and great-great grandmother of 10; also several loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Wednesday October 12th 6-8 PM in Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home, 242 Genesee St., Lockport. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the South Lockport Volunteer Fire Co., or the Auxiliary would be appreciated by the family.
