WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – The Niagara women’s soccer team was defeated by the Monmouth Hawks on Saturday afternoon.

Monmouth got on the board quickly, scoring its first goal of the game in the 13th minute; Alexis McTamney dribbled the ball into the box and slipped her shot past van Nuland near the far left post.
Niagara created a chance quickly; less than 30 seconds after the goal, Sophie Connor took the Purple Eagles’ first and only shot of the first period. Connor’s shot was saved by the Monmouth keeper.

Monmouth continued to dominate in the first half of the game scoring two more goals, one in the 26th minute and one in the 44th minute, to give themselves a 3-0 lead going into halftime. Both goals were scored on penalty kicks. Eva Bachmann took Niagara’s second and final shot of the game; it was saved by the Hawks’ keeper. The Hawks gave themselves a 4-0 lead in the 75th minute and put the game away with their final goal of the day in the 78th minute.

The Purple Eagles return home on Wednesday to host the Saint Peter’s Peacocks at 3 p.m. Following Saint Peter’s, Niagara hosts Fairfield for senior day on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
