BUFFALO — Tianna Hatch (Endicott/Elmira Free Acad.) scored twice and freshman Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) posted her school-record sixth-consecutive shutout as Buffalo State remained perfect in SUNYAC play with a 2-0 victory today over visiting Oswego.

Buffalo State dominated the first half, keeping the Lakers hemmed in their own half of the field, but the Bengals could not break through.  Buffalo State held a 6-0 advantage in shots at the intermission.

Both teams increased the scoring chances in the second half, but it was Buffalo State that was able to capitalize on being awarded a pair of penalty kicks. Melissa Smith (N. Tonawanda/Niagara Wheatfield) drew the first foul just inside the right side of the box.  Her attempt was stopped, but Hatch got two cracks at the rebound and eventually buried it to open the scoring in the 58th minute.

Hatch added her second goal of the game and fourth of the season on a penalty kick of her own in the 88th minute after she was fouled by the goalkeeper racing for a loose ball. The Bengals finished with a 19-5 advantage in shots for the game. Carillo made two saves for her sixth-straight shutout and also bettered Katie Melsert’s school-record scoreless streak, pushing her total to 619 minutes and 55 seconds.

Buffalo State will play host to Cortland Sunday for a 1 p.m. SUNYAC contest.
