BUFFALO — The Canisius men’s soccer team opens a stretch where three of its next four games are at home, starting Saturday night when the Golden Griffins play to host Quinnipiac. Game time at the Demske Sports Complex is set for 7 p.m., and the contest will be aired live on ESPN3.

Canisius extended its unbeaten streak to four straight (3-0-1) with a 1-0 win at Manhattan Oct. 1. The win moved the Blue and Gold to 5-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in MAAC play. Junior Hakeem Milson scored the game’s lone goal in the 80th minute after he was able to settle a rebound off a blocked shot. The goal was Milson’s second of the season. Redshirt-junior Marco Trivellato earned his third shutout-win of the season after he stopped three Manhattan shots. The win at Manhattan was Canisius’ third-straight over the Jaspers, dating back to the 2014 campaign.

The Griffs’ defensive efforts have been strong this season, with the team allowing just eight goals in the first 10 contests of the year. Dating back to last season, the Canisius defense has held its opponents to two-or fewer goals in 19 consecutive outings. Trivellato starts this weekend tied for second in the MAAC in save percentage at .837 while ranking second in the league with his 0.77 goals against average. His 43 saves this year is fourth-best in the league.

Through 10 games this season, Canisius leads the MAAC with 167 shots, an average of 16.7 shots per game. The next closest team to Canisius’ shot total is Rider, which has 146 shots on the year in 10 contests. As a team, Canisius ranks ninth nationally in shots per game average. Junior Mathew Santos leads the team and the MAAC with 43 shots this season. Sophomore Melvin Blair has 27 shots on the year, which ranks seventh in the conference.

Saturday’s game will mark the eighth all-time meeting between Canisius and Quinnipiac, with the Bobcats holding a 5-1-1 lead in the series. Canisius went 1-1-0 in two games against Quinnipiac last year.
